Denny Hamlin got one back after losing last week to Harvick. He had the dominant car for most of the race and was able to cross the stripe first, with his Gibbs teammates finishing P2 and P3 behind him. Hamlin passed Erik Jones late in the race and was able to save enough fuel to last through the overtime win. This is the first time we have seen a fuel mileage race play out with this lower horsepower package. Drivers and Crew Chief's weren't sure how much fuel they could save, if any, with this package. But, Hamlin and several other drivers were able to stretch it out to the end thanks to the drivers slowing the pace and a late race caution.

Our leader has stacked up two wins back to back to take an early lead in our standings. We'll head to Watkins Glen this week for some road course action!

For the first time in 2019, Kevin Harvick grabs the checkered flag. He held off Denny Hamlin in a last lap battle for the win at New Hampshire. Harvick is now the most winning among active drivers at the track. Harvick stayed out on older tires, but when Hamlin pulled up beside him on the last lap, Harvick turned the wheel and rubbed sheet metal with Hamlin and gave him enough of an edge to hold him off at the stripe.

This was another great finish to start our second half. Back-to-back last lap battles could help build some momentum in the sport. Let's see how the boys do with the lower horsepower package going to Pocono next week.

Kurt Busch got denied last week at Daytona due to an unfortunate pit call and lighting strikes in the area. He came back this week and beat his little brother in a two lap overtime sprint to the checkered flag. Kurt and Kyle pushed each other around a little, but avoided wrecking each other at the end. This is Kurt's first win of the season, and the first win with his new team at Ganassi Racing. This is the first time that the brothers have finished 1-2.

This race was a great start to the 2nd part of the season. Let's see what New Hampshire brings next week!

Martin Truex Jr. survived an early brush with the outside wall and a crazy restart with five laps left to go, to win the Coke 600.

On a race that featured 16 cautions, Truex made a four-wide pass to the inside coming off Turn 2 with 4 to go that sealed the win for him.  This is Truex's 3rd win on the season and it seems that he's starting to show his dominance on the 1.5 tracks again. It seemed like Kyle Busch might carry the mail in this race, but he got pinned in the back late in the race after his brother Kurt clipped him when he wrecked, and he never recovered completely. Chase Elliott also had a fast car, but his car seemed to tighten up as the night went on.

The boys head to Pocono this weekend for a triangle race. Let's see if the dominance from the 19, 18, and 2 continue, or if someone else is going to step up and win some more races!

Chase Elliott took the lead during a four-lap shootout to the finish and took the checkered flag under caution after Kyle Larson barrel-rolled behind him. Elliott’s victory broke a Chevrolet drought in the dating to last October at Kansas Speedway and broke a seven-race Ford streak at Talladega.

The first driver not from Team Penske or Joe Gibbs racing to win this season, Elliott crossed the stripe in front of his teammate Alex Bowman, who scored his career-best finish. This was a big day for Chevrolet, as they have had a dismal season so far. They had a manufacturers meeting prior to the race and were all told to work together; reminiscent of last years Ford dominating performance.

Headed to the Monster Mile in Dover this weekend. Who can tame the Monster?!

Saturday night’s victory was a first for Martin Truex Jr., and more of the same for Joe Gibbs Racing. Truex won his first Cup Series race on a short track in his 81st try and in the process picked up his first victory with Joe Gibbs Racing since moving from  Furniture Row Racing last year.

At the same time, Truex gave JGR its third straight victory and sixth in nine races this season. Joey Logano finished .178 seconds behind Truex, as Gibbs and Team Penske maintained their stranglehold.

Logano got past third-place finisher Clint Bowyer in the closing laps and got a strong run off of Turn 2 on the last lap, but Logano couldn’t find a way around Truex through the last two corners. To his credit, the kept it clean, opting not to move Truex as he had done on the final lap in last year’s Playoff race at Martinsville.

The boys get a weekend off for the Easter Holiday weekend, then it's off to Talladega baby! Anything can happen at this place, so buckle up!

Denny Hamlin stole the show on Sunday. Recovering from two speeding penalties, and still being able to hold on for the win! It was a good day for Joe Gibbs Racing, recording Cup win #161. SHR also had a good day with all of their cars finishing strong. We saw the first glimmer of light out of the Hendricks camp, and Penske cars had nothing but trouble on Sunday. Including Ryan Blaney, who had engine trouble while leading the race. The racing action looked a little better on Sunday. Hopefully NASCAR tweaks the package some so that we get more racing like that, and better, as the season continues.

This week is Bristol baby! Let's see how this package holds up at the coliseum. Hopefully we see more action there than Martinsville had. Our pool shook up this past week with a lot of top people taking some hits. The standings are tight now and it's anyone's race!

Nobody had anything for the blue deuce at the paperclip. Chase Elliott got the lead for a brief amount of time, but wasn't able to hold on to it. Keselowski was the dominant car, leading over 400 laps of the race. Chase said he would have put the bumper to him if he had caught him, but I haven't seen that kind of aggression from the kid yet.

It's on to Texas, where we will see if the new aero package has anything positive to show. We will see a change in the qualifying rules this week, but I'm not sure how much that will effect things. Time to see if anyone other than Penske or Gibbs can win this year.

Kyle Busch does it again. Sweeping the weekend and winning his 199th NASCAR race. I've never been a fan of his, but you cannot deny the guy is good. He ran down Ryan Blaney with 18 to go and he set sail. Truex tried to make it interesting at the end, making up close to 7 seconds on Busch in the last 22 laps. Most folks were trying to save fuel to make it to the end, but obviously Truex wasn't on the same plan.

Busch has now won every race at Phoenix, that he has been entered in, since the reconfiguration of the track last fall. We'll move on to Auto Club Speedway this weekend. I'm calling Truex, Larson, Blaney top 3 this week.

We got to see some of the new competition rules last weekend at Atlanta. They ran the aero package but did not run the front fender ducts. That, combined with Atlanta's rough surface did not create the tighter pack racing that we saw in the All-Star Race in Charlotte last year. Kyle Larson seemed to be he class of the field until he made a critical mistake on pit road and was penalized for speeding. Once he got back in the pack, his car wasn't set up for the handling he needed to make his way back to the front.

Brad Keselowski showed up for the majority pick holders last week and sealed the win. This was Ford's first win with the new Mustang body. Brad had been sick all weekend, but said in the pre-race that he and his car were good enough to win the race; and he was right. If I were him, I would have talked smack in Victory Lane after beating the entire field while under the weather!

This week we are racing in sin city, Las Vegas. The combination package will be ran here; new high downforce aerodynamic package and the front fender ducts. This will create more draft opportunities and more of the pack racing that we saw at the All-Star race in Charlotte last year. Las Vegas has a smoother surface as well, so the racing will be much different than last week, making this race more of a wild card race!

Well Daytona didn't disappoint. It took a while, but the race ended up being exciting, and a total crash fest at the end! Only 14 cars were on the lead lap at the end of the race. The new packages definitely leave a lot of questions for the upcoming races.

Denny Hamlin ended up leading the most important lap of the race, and Joe Gibbs racing finished 1-2-3. Matt DiBenedetto was the real star of the race. He led some laps and stayed in the lead pack until he got dumped late in the race. Hendricks cars looked to have more pep than they did all last year. So we'll see how the year unfolds.

I'm looking forward to the new aerodynamics package being ran at Atlanta this week. We should see more pack racing, and hopefully more excitement! Crazy start to the season here as only 4 people got a top 10 finish.

Next Race: Atlanta on Sunday February 24th!

Welcome to Season 1 - 2019

Welcome to Race Pool 2019 Season 1 of 2!

Hello everyone, Thanks for joining Season 1 of 2 of the race pool for the 2019 NASCAR season! Last year was pretty exciting with finishes in our pool, and I expect this year to be the same way. There's a lot of new drivers and driver/team changes this year, so it should definitely be interesting.

We had a pretty good turnout for the first half of the season. The payout is as follows:

1st - $260
2nd - $120

3rd - $60
Last - Free entry for Season 2 of the 2019 Season
