5. Gary W -208
Last: James Boothe - Free entry to first half of 2018

In a season dominated by Martin Truex Jr, it only seemed right that he won the championship! I think the last race was as tight as it could be, and Truex pulled off one heck of a season. Congrats to him and his team.

As for our standings, they sure did shake up in this last race! G-unit fell to 4th and Buz and Sam Holloway ended up tying for the top spot. It came down to the tie breaker points to determine the winner, and Buz had more top finishes in the end. Buz actually got the race pool headache award for the first half and then won the second half. Congrats to both of those guys.

I hope everyone enjoyed the pool this year. Will give it a few months to take a break and get it started again in February! Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Chase Elliott, my man! I'm sure he was smiling a little behind his helmet when Denny Hamlin hit the wall with a blown tire from the contact the two had. The crowd seemed to love seeing Hamlin hit the wall too. It would have been nice to see Chase get the win to compete for the trophy next weekend, but it'll have to wait to next year. It's going to be a heck of a battle next weekend at Homestead when Truex, Busch, Harvick, and Keselowski.

Our standings have tightened up after this race, and it should be a great finish going into this last race at Homestead. The top two spots are up for grabs for the payout. It's also a tight race for last place, haha.

Well someone other than Martin Truex Jr was able to win on a mile and a half track last weekend. Although I was pulling for Truex, Harvick slipped in and grabbed a win in the Chase that will give him a shot at Homestead. As for the rest of the race, I can't speak a lot about it b/c I didn't watch much of it.But I do make sure I watch at least the last 50 laps....and hope for some cars to be tore up, haha.

Looks like G-unit is gaining a bit of a lead, but we've still got two races to go. It's anyone's race for the top spots. Good luck everyone! Let's get ready for a little racing in the dessert this week.

Martinsville delivered one hell of a race last weekend. It started in the daylight and ended under the lights. The race was competitive throughout, for the most part. And the ending was every bit of what we could have hoped for....except for Kyle Busch winning. Denny Hamlin made a bonehead move by dumping Chase Elliott in the closing laps. That definitely will not win him any fans. And I can guarantee you that Chase will not forget that one easily with the last few races to go. I'm pretty sure he gained some fans last weekend but would have gained even more if he had at least gave ol Hamlin a shove or something when they were jawing after the race!

As for the finish, it looked like Truex would be able to pull Busch at the finish line to get his first short track win of his NASCAR career, but fell just a little bit short. Truex is still the clear favorite to win the cup this year and I expect to see him dominate this weekend as they head to Texas; another track that caters to his driving style.

Our first place man in the pool is gaining a little bit of a lead with 3 races to go. Tighten up and hang on everyone. I feel like these last 3 races are going to get interesting!

Race 14 - Kansas

Race 14 - Kansas

Pole Winner: #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Race Winner: #78 Martin Truex Jr.

Majority Pick: #3 & #48

Pool Standings:
1. G-unit - 131
2. Buz - 132
3. JuneBug88 - 144
4. Gary W - 154
4. Sam Holloway - 159

Martin Truex Jr. does it again on a mile and a half track. If he continues like this, he could beat Bobby Labonte's old record of averaging a 2.3 finish on mile and a half tracks. Truex is currently averaging a 2.5 finish. It certainly has been his year, and I think it's going to take some bad luck for him to not win the championship.

The racing was pretty good at Kansas, from what I saw of it. Kyle Busch looked to have a good car, as well as his brother. Matt Kenseth got benched during the race for having too many crew members working on the car. NASCAR told him to park the car after that. Then, Jimmy Johnson's crew sent an extra man over the wall. But, NASCAR said that since that crew member was "servicing the driver", he would not be disqualified like Kenseth was. A lot of people disagree with the call, as do I. Johnson's crew member pulled off a tear away from the windshield, which modified the car. That's no different that changing a tire in my mind. Both enhanced the driver's ability to drive the car. Had the guy given Johnson a bottle of water and went back over the wall, then I wouldn't be arguing. I think that is more along the lines of servicing the driver. Any thoughts? Feel free to comment.

We've got some short track action on  the schedule at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. I hope there is a good turnout for the race. Although it's going to be raining that morning and cold throughout the day. But don't let that stop you from going! Take some airplane bottles in with you to help stay warm :-D.

Race 13 - Talladega

Race 13 - Talladega

Pole Winner: #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Race Winner: #2 Brad Keselowski

Majority Pick: #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.

1. Gary W - 118
2. G-unit - 123
3. Sam Holloway - 124
4. Buz - 129
4. JuneBug88 - 133

Talladega looked to be the best race I've seen all year. Lot's of action, tight racing, and plenty of wrecks. I think there were only a dozen cars or so that finished the race. Jr didn't get the win I predicted but, if you see my name on the sheet you can tell I haven't done that great at predicting the winners. He ran good though, and if it wasn't for his splitter breaking he might have had a shot at getting to the front. Chase Elliott had the car to beat, but just had some bad luck with 6 laps to go. He had one hell of a run and saw the opening and went for it. Suarez just didn't see him in time and it ended both of their chances. I hated to see a Ford in victory lane, but at least it said "Cheers 2 Dale Jr" on the back!

Let's get ready for some more settled down racing action at Kansas this week. The race for the chase is getting tight as this race is the last of the round of 12. After Kansas we will be down to the round of 8. Our standings are tightening up as well, so good luck to everyone in the hunt!

1. Gary W - 92
2. G-unit -116
3. Sam Holloway -117
4. Buz - 122
4. asleep at the wheel - 125

Well, I missed my prediction on the top 3 for Charlotte, but I got one of them. Martin Truex Jr. continues to roll through this season, racking up his 6th win for 2017. Lots of little things happened last week that may have some impact going forward. One of the biggest being Kyle Larson calling out NASCAR and Jimmy Johnson. Apparently NASCAR has been overlooking some infractions in the 48 camp. We'll see if that creates any tension on the race track between these two chase contenders.

This week is a total crap shoot as usual at Talladega. I'm going with the prediction that Dale Jr. gets his last win at one of his favorite tracks. If not the win, he's a top 3 guy in this race. We'll see what the Toyota's bring to the restrictor plate track this week. They have been ahead of the game this year and we'll see if that run continues, or if Chevy and Ford can start making up some ground during the home stretch!

I think that everyone moved out of the way for Kyle Busch last Sunday for the race win. I sure would have like to see Chase win that race, but he'll keep digging. The race was fairly uneventful, with limited cautions. If it happens again, I look for NASCAR to throw in a "mystery" caution to make it interesting. This week the big boys are in Charlotte for some mile and half action. A track this size has Martin Truex Jr written all over it, but remember that Jimmy Johnson has dominated here in years past. Also look for Kyle Busch to keep steam rolling through Charlotte. I'm calling that the top 3 for this weekend.

It's looking like Martin Truex Jr is the class of the field right now. Apparently Chase Elliot cheated, by adding tape to the rear spoiler, and still couldn't catch him. Kyle Busch had some bad luck and had to serve a pass-thru penalty under green, and he never recovered from that, finishing 15th. I'm not sure who will be able to beat Truex at this point. It's going to take a huge turn of events for it to happen.

With 9 races to go, let's see if someone else can put some heat on the 78 team and make this a real race!

Unfortunately Richmond was kind of a snoozefest for me. The racing action just didn't seem as good as it has in years past. But with that said, we still saw Austin Dillon spin out Danica (poor thing), and Denny Hamlin take out Truex on the last lap of the race. Dale Jr tried to gamble on pit strategy and catch a caution to get him on the front row, but cautions were scarce Saturday night. So no Chase for the 88. Maybe he can still a win before the year is out. There were a couple of other exciting moments mixed in, but nothing to continue on about. The Chase field is set, with Truex leading the way by quite a margin to start out. Some of the guys are going to have to get it together if they want to compete with the 78 and 42 down the stretch.

Time to pack it up and move it on to Chicago this week. Logano said there are 10 races left, so he expects to win 10 races this year. I hope it starts off well for him this week since I have him picked!

3. Gary W -72
4. Buz - 77
4. Garrett Hodges - 77

Well I didn't watch all of the race this past week, but I did see the last 15 laps. Kudos to Truex for pushing the envelope and trying to sneak out another win on those old tires. But in the end, Denny Hamlin was just making up too much time on fresher tires. And maybe, just maybe, because his rear end was out of spec as well! NASCAR hit the 11 team up with some hefty fines and penalties because of it.

We've got some night race action at Richmond coming up this weekend. Richmond, under the lights, is one of my favorite races! I'm going with Dale Jr. for the win so he makes the chase...wonder what the Vegas odds are on that! For all the guys on the bubble, or the outside looking in, it's a win and you're in situation!

4. Garrett Hodges - 59
4. Hot Rod - 63

Let's give it up for Kyle Busch. Not only has he made history by being the only NASCAR driver to complete the three series sweep at the same track on the same weekend, but now he has done it twice. Like him or not, the guy can drive! Erik Jones put up one hell of a fight, but in the end he fell short. You could tell he was disappointed, but he will have many more chances at Bristol. Now the playoff race is tight, with only 2 races left, who will make it into the Chase?!

Darlington is this weekend, and can be the make or break for some of these guys. It's getting down to crunch time for the guys on the bubble and on the outside looking in! Hopefully this will make for some good racing on Sunday.

Can anyone guess who the majority pick will be at this track next year? haha. Restarts are still proving to be an exciting part of the race and anything can happen when they start pushing.

Martin Truex Jr finally won a fuel mileage race. I wasn't sure if he could pull it off, but he ended up in Victory Lane. Dale Jr. went out with another failure, and I'm not sure if he'll even win a race at this point. Brad K had a duh moment at the end of the race by blowing too many pit stalls. And the majority pick, AJ Allmendinger, got a top 10 finish. All-in-all, it was a fairly uneventful race until the end.

Looking ahead to Michigan this week, maybe the racing will be tight. Will the Toyota's dominate? Will Dale Jr finally win a race? Will Martin Truex Jr continue to rack up wins? Tune in Sunday for all these answers and more!

Rowdy finally got his first win of the season. He's dominated a lot of races this year, but just always finds a way to not finish first. Maybe he'll stop whining, slightly, and move on now. I'm sure it wasn't tense at all in the Hendrick garage on Monday after Kasey Kahne got into Jimmy Johnson going into turns 3 and 4 and cut Jimmy's left rear, which ended his day early. Clint Bowyer managed to squeak out a stage win by staying out and not pitting at the end of stage 2. I guess he needed those bonus points to help him in the Chase.

Let's get ready for some road course action this weekend at Watkins Glenn. The cup boys will be qualifying and racing on Sunday. The road courses always have the potential to get real exciting, especially on restarts. Will a road course junkie do well this week, or will we see the same trio of contenders at the top?

Well the Brickyard 400 turned into the Scrapyard 400 in the last 50 laps of the race. The majority pick was Kyle Busch, and he looked poised for the win, until Truex Jr. wiped him out on the restart. Since Truex Jr. took out the two best cars, that left it to Brad Keselowski and Kasey Kahne to battle back and forth trying to let the other one win. I mean really, who else was screaming at these two bone heads on the last couple of restarts for picking the top line?! The bottom had the push at the end of the race. Just ask Trevor Bayne. NASCAR gave Kahne a gift at the end by holding that caution flag for a few seconds. I know they were running out of daylight, but it seemed a little obvious.

On another note, I have to give Jimmy Johnson kudos for making it one hell of a race at the end. Going 3 wide at 200 mph and trying to stick it in the corner, all while your car is blowing up?! That sir, takes some kahunas.

Let's get ready for this week at Pocono. I hope it's another wild one!

What a race to end the first half of our season! There was a tie for the win and the top 3 in the standings take home some green this week. It was a hell of a race for Martin Truex Jr, that almost didn't end up like he hoped. He had lapped all but 8 cars, and had a commanding lead until the caution came out with 3 to go. On old tires, he was able to hold off the surge from the young guns behind him. Was really good to see such a good race at Kentucky.

With only 2 races to go in the first half of the season, the race for 1st is heating up. But Daytona is this weekend, and we all know how that can shake things up.This week was a fun one to watch at the road course. Martin Truex Jr. had a rocket, but the engine failed and cost him a chance at the win. It wasn't too good of a day for the 22 people that picked #47 AJ Allmendinger, he finished in the rear on a track that he usually runs good. I guess Kyle Larson got his redemption from last week. The California kid took the trophy home after it looked like Martin Truex Jr. was going to sweep the stages and the victory. The late race caution was the talk of the race though. Tony Stewart gave his opinion, and Dale Jr. fired off on NASCAR as well. The whole point of the stage racing was to help reduce some of these late race cautions for debris. Guess that isn't working too well for NASCAR. The wreck before the last caution took just as many laps as the last "debris" caution. Seems odd to me, but what do I know? Tires, tires, tires. I don't care how good you are Kyle Busch, you can't win on old tires. I'm glad to see the Wood Brothers and Ryan Blaney were able to capitalize and walk away with the trophy at Pocono. Even though he drives a ford, it's fun pulling for the local guys! In other news, some of these guys need to practice shifting gears, Dale Jr. and Kevin Harvick. Shifting from 3rd gear to 2nd gear when you've got your foot in the gas isn't good for the motor. That's why Jr. went home early this week. Oh, and I sure hope that NASCAR is tearing down Kevin Harvick's motor and transmission this week. There's no way in the world that thing should have held together when he missed 4th gear, hit 2nd instead, and turned over 12,000 RPM's. Something seems a little odd there. But anyway, we'll move on to the next week at Michigan. Point standings are tightening up as we get close to the end!

Kyle Larson thought he was going to get to hang with the Monster Energy girls in Victory Lane, but Jimmy Johnson slapped him in the face on the final restart. Even he admitted that Jimmy wasn't a 7-time champion for nothing. Better luck next time Kyle, the Monster Energy girls will still be there. Overall it was a decent race. The track was fast on new tires, and the low down-force package made the cars a lot to handle for some drivers. Looks like we'll head over to Pocono this week for a ride on the tricky triangle. Be on the lookout for the sheets for the second half of the season. I will post them on the blog as well as email them.

Race 12 - Charlotte

Race 12 - Charlotte

Pole Winner: #4 Kevin Harvick
Race Winner:#3 Austin Dillon.

Majority Pick: #48 Jimmy Johnson

Pool Standings:
1. Jay G - 136
2. Garrett Hodges - 137
3. Loretta - 143
4. Juan Perez - 152
5. G Money - 155

Well, good job to the ol' silver spoon, Autstin Dillon, on his win at Charlotte. But I think the best parts of the race were Jimmy Johnson running out of fuel and Kyle Busch's responses after the race. He may still act the same next week, but I bet his wife tells him not to pick his nose while on camera again, haha. And if anyone saw the video that Dale Jr. captured of Kyle Busch tripping over his feet and falling in the pit area, that was a good laugh! Hopefully this week is another good week with more stories to tell after the monster mile.

Race 11 - Kansas

Race 11 - Kansas

Pole Winner: #21 Ryan Blaney
Race Winner:#78 Martin Truex Jr.

Majority Pick: #14 Clint Bowyer

Pool Standings:
1. Garrett Hodges - 134
2. Jay G - 135
3. Juan Perez - 135
4. Rip - 136
5. Loretta - 137

Martin Truex Jr. finally got his win at Kansas after the NASCAR devil took him out last year with a mechanical issue nobody could predict. It looked like Ryan Blaney was going to carry the mail after stage 1, but he didn't have enough after the sun went down to hold off the 78 car. But, it's good to see the Wood Brothers being competitive each week now. We saw a crazy wreck that red flagged the race for a while, and I hope that Eric Almirola makes a full recovery after having to be cut out from his car. Maybe this week Danica's string of bad luck will end, and hopefully Joey Logano won't piss anyone else off; whether it's a mechanical failure or a bonehead move. Let's get ready to see an extra stage segment and a 600 mile endurance race at Charlotte! I hope it's more exciting than the All-Star race...

Race 10 - Talladega

Race 10 - Talladega

Pole Winner: #17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Race Winner: #17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Majority Pick: #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Pool Standings:
1. Garrett Hodges - 117
2. Juan Perez -120
3. Penny G -122
4. Start and Park Racing- 124
5. Loretta - 129

Well it wasn't Ricky Bobby this weekend, it was Ricky Stenhouse Jr. He got his first win, and put Roush back in Victory Lane. And he locked lips with Danica in Victory Lane. I bet he tries a little harder now! All things considered though, he did have the fastest car on the track. Unless you ask Kyle Busch, who said Talladega is not a real race track and pouted over a 3rd place finish. Really Kyle? Let's act like a spoiled brat every time the camera is on. Maybe he should become a real man and learn to take the good with the bad?

Dale Jr. was the majority pick this week and had to make an emergency pitstop with just a handful of laps left. This left 10 people with a 22nd place finish. Not the finish it looked like he was going to get, but he'll have one more chance at it next half of the season. But on a good note, FOX seemed to have a good feed from the track so we could actually watch the race this week. The big boys will be under the lights this Saturday night in Kansas City!

Race 9 - Richmond

Race 9 -Richmond

Pole Winner: #20 Matt Kenseth
Race Winner: #22 Joey Logano

Majority Pick: #11 Denny Hamlin

Pool Standings:
1. Juan Perez - 98
2. Loretta -104
3. G Money - 107
4. Rip - 108
5. Garrett Hodges - 111

It's hard for me to comment much on the race due to the fact that FOX pretty much sucks. Most everyone I talked with had problems watching the race on Sunday. It would be real nice if they would get there act together. I mean, how hard is it to broadcast a major sporting event?! But anyway, let me get off of my soap box. Other than the spotty coverage, from what I saw, the racing looked pretty good at Richmond. Despite all of the controversy around it being a daytime race instead of a nighttime race, I think it was good action for the fans. I hope that Rick Hendrick sends Jimmy Johnson and his spotter for an eye exam before they take on Talladega. If not, there will be more wrecks than usual! Let's get ready for some restrictor plate action this weekend!

Race 8 -Bristol

Pole Winner: #42 Kyle Larson
Race Winner: #48 Jimmie Johnson

Majority Pick: #18 Kyle Busch

Pool Standings:
1. Garrett Hodges - 88
2. Juan Perez -90
3. Rip -92
4. Start and Park Racing - 95
5. Loretta -101

Bristol was a wash out on Sunday, but they made up for it on Monday. I liked the racing this time at Bristol, with the lower line coming back in to play a little bit. It looked like the 42 car was going to take another one for a while, but Jimmy Johnson snuck in and snagged another W at the end. This week is a short turnaround, but it's not a long trip to Richmond from Bristol. And with Dale Jr. announcing his retirement I feel like the odds in Vegas just changed on him winning the championship, haha. Maybe we'll see some extra fire out of him now. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Race 7 - Texas

Race 7 - Texas

Pole Winner: #4 Kevin Harvick
Race Winner: #48 Jimmie Johnson

Majority Pick: #22 Joey Logano

Pool Standings:
1. Hot Rod - 80
2. Juan Perez -83
3. BJ - 86
4. Garrett Hodges - 87
5. Rip - 88

The Wood Brothers were the team to beat all day yesterday. But, an unfortunate chain of events got Ryan Blaney stuck back in the pack in the #21 car. After that, he never really made a hard charge back to the front. Some different pit strategies got the majority pick, #22 Joey Logano, to the front for a good finish. Dale Jr, got his first top 5 finish of the year. And Jimmie Johnson shut down all the naysayers by battling hard and getting the win at Texas. The cup boys will have the weekend off this weekend for the holiday, and then it's Bristol baby! Hope everyone has a great Easter!

1. Intimidator - 64
2. Juan Perez -67
3. Blake Hall - 73
4. Hot Rod - 74
5. Asleep at the Wheel - 75

Well, it was a caution packed day at Martinsville once again. There was some great racing, and some tempers flared during the race. I guess Ryan Blaney won't be getting any more free beers at Dale Jr's ranch after spinning him on the backstretch! Denny Hamlin needs to get his wheel-hop issues under control if he ever wants to win another Martinsville race. With Denny Hamlin being the majority pick, and Dale Jr. being a close second, the standings have shuffled up once again. We'll try it again this week at Texas. Good Luck!

Guess this race should have been the Kyle Larson 400. He swept the weekend winning the pole on Friday, the Xfinity race on Saturday, and the Monster Energy race on Sunday. The boy is driving on rails and holds the points lead as well. Let's get ready for a home game this week boys and girls, as they tackle the ol' paperclip!

Well Phoenix is behind us and like the rest of the season, it was a crazy finish! How fitting was it that Rowdy lost the race on a late race caution caused by Joey Logano? Anyway, a Chevy ended up in victory lane. Ryan Newman got his first win in years and brought home a trophy for RCR. Let's get ready for another good race in California!

1. Intimidator - 19
2. Start and Park Racing -21
3. Go Left Young Man - 25
4. Jamey Young - 29
5. Hall's Hill - 34

Las Vegas was another wild week. We saw ol' Rowdy take a swing at Logano after the race, which always makes it fun to watch. We'll see how they race each other this week. Kyle Busch was the majority pick last week, and would have had a good finish if he hadn't got dumped on the last lap. It was good to see Truex win, but I'm still waiting on a Chevy to take the checkered flag. Maybe this week will be it

1. Cheap Shot - 14
2. RIP - 15
3. Start and Park Racing - 16
4. Intimidator - 18
5. Juan Perez - 18

Thanks to the unexpected generosity of the Kevin Harvick, Brad K took the checkered flag on Sunday. The majority pick for the week was the dominant car in the race, but the late race slip up didn't leave him with enough time to charge to the front. Ford has now won back-to-back races. Let's hope to see a bow tie in victory lane this week.....it's Vegas baby!
